ARTIST BIO

Anna Szurpit

Anna Szurpit, born in 1984 in Poznań, a graduate of the Piotr Potworowski Secondary School of Fine Arts in Poznań, as well as Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology at the Adam Mickiewicz University.
Anna's painting is an attempt to respond to the theory of cognitive inspiration and bases her work on the beliefs of the creators of psychoanalysis.
The artist deals with the subject of Ego inspired by Freud's writings.
The term Ego (self) appears along with the meaning of narcissism, which is importantly rooted in childhood narcissism. A child is an ideal for himself, but as a result of criticism this image may be distorted.
In her works, Anna follows the theme of the Ego, which is integrated in a child.
Jung created the structure of the ego.
The painter dresses Ego in the form of a dog that is a faithful friend of man (work titled Taming the Ego)
The faces of children in Anna's works are most often surreal, disturbing, just as the ego is unconscious.
